Children attending the Michelle Bourne Dance Academy are given the opportunity to take practical examinations with the International Dance Teacher’s Association (IDTA) where they receive nationally recognised qualifications.
The International Dance Teachers’ Association is one of the world’s largest examination boards, covering the full spectrum of dance examinations on a global scale, with over 7,000 members in 55 countries.
Exams can be taken in any of the following dance styles:
Tap, Ballet, Theatre Craft, Modern, Freestyle and Street Dance.
Children are required to wear a specific uniform when taking examinations, which is as follows:
Tap and Theatre Craft: Blue leotard, blue skirt, white socks (Black tights if over 13 yrs), Pink Ballet Shoes, Black Tap Shoes with toe and heel taps.
Ballet: Blue leotard, blue skirt, pink socks (Pink tights if over 13 yrs), Pink Ballet Shoes.
Theatre Craft: Blue leotard, blue skirt, white socks, Pink Ballet Shoes.
Freestyle and Street Dance: Anything bright and colourful, i.e. swimming costume, catsuit, shorts, leggings etc.
A blue leotard and skirt must also be worn by all children during usual dance classes. Boys may wear practical dance clothing but are encouraged to purchase our boy’s uniform.
Children are encouraged to take exams once every two years especially those who are considering a career in dance or Performing Arts however exams are NOT compulsory.
The Michelle Bourne Dance Academy currently has a 100% exam pass rate.
